How it works
Three pieces, and the checks run on your PC.
A read-only add-on inside NinjaTrader, the TiltLab app beside it, and a small cloud service for your account and billing. Here is what each one does, what gets checked and when, what the strip shows, and what TiltLab never does.
The pieces
Who talks to whom
The checks run on your own computer. Your orders go from NinjaTrader to your broker exactly as they do today; TiltLab isn't in that path.
Your PC
The add-on
Reads price bars, orders, fills, positions and account names, and reports each order the moment it's placed. Read-only: it can't place, change or cancel anything.
The TiltLab app
Holds your rules, journal and Trader DNA, and checks every order and fill against them.
The strip
Green, amber or red, with the reason in one line. You decide what to do.
Orders: NinjaTrader → your broker, as today. TiltLab only reads them.
TiltLab's cloud
Your email, your plan, your billing status
Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card number. Your fills, orders and journal aren't sent here for the checks: those run on your PC.
What's checked, and when
From your morning plan to the last fill
-
Before the open
You set the rules
In Prep you write your plan and your limits: trades per day, contract size, a cooldown after a loss, your trading hours, and each prop account's daily loss limit and drawdown. On Pro, Trader DNA adds what your own journal says about you: your tilt point, your revenge window, your weaker hours.
-
Before every entry
The strip is already showing the verdict
You don't have to ask. If your next trade would break a rule, because you're inside your cooldown, at your trade limit, past your hours or close to today's limit, the strip has turned amber or red before you click.
-
The moment you place an order
Each order is checked
The add-on reports the order straight away, and the app checks it: size against your rule, sizing up right after a loss, no stop, room left on the account. A flagged working order can still be cancelled, by you, in NinjaTrader. A market order usually fills at once, which is why the warning before the entry matters most.
-
When a fill comes in
The numbers move with you
Your P&L, trade count, losses in a row, cooldown timer and prop-account buffer update from your real fills, so the next verdict is based on what just happened.
-
After the close
Review it
Your journal and Review show which trades broke a rule and what that cost, and Trader DNA learns from the day for tomorrow's checks.
What the strip shows
One line, always on top, beside NinjaTrader.
- A colour. Green when nothing in your rules is against the next trade, amber for a caution, red for a stop-and-think.
- The reason, in plain words. “Cooldown: 12 min left after your last loss,” not a score you have to decode.
- Your room for today. How much is left before the prop account's daily limit, in dollars and in ticks.
- Nothing else. No buy or sell calls, no price targets. It never blocks the trade: it tells you, and you decide.
What TiltLab never does
The lines we don't cross
Never places an order
It never places, changes or cancels orders. The add-on is read-only, and the optional Tradovate sync only reads accounts, fills, orders, positions and balances.
Never blocks you
It doesn't lock your platform or stop a trade. It warns; you stay in charge.
Never needs your broker password for the co-pilot
It reads NinjaTrader on your own PC. The one optional exception is Tradovate sync, which needs your Tradovate username, password and API key; they stay on your PC and don't pass through us.
Never sends your trades to the cloud for checks
Rules, journal and Trader DNA live on your PC, and the checks run there. Only if you turn on sharing with a partner is a short record of the shared trades stored, so that partner can see it; see Your data.
Never gives trade signals
No buy or sell calls, no sizing advice, no forecasts of where price is going.
Never sells your data
And the free Habit Cost Audit reads your file in your browser: it's never uploaded.
Your data
What stays on your PC, and what doesn't.
Stays on your PC
- Your market data and charts, from your own NinjaTrader feed
- What the NinjaTrader connector reads: price bars, orders, fills, positions and account names
- Your journal, Trader DNA, chart drawings and replay history
- Your rules, prop-account limits, commission setting and which accounts count as real trading
- Your Tradovate login and API key, if you turn on Tradovate sync
- The file you drop into the Habit Cost Audit (it's read in your browser and never uploaded)
Goes to TiltLab's cloud
- Your account: email address, username and display name
- Your plan and billing status. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see your card number.
- Your Floor messages and calls, and who you partner with, block or report
- Only if you turn on partner sharing: a short record of the trades you chose to share, readable only by you and those partners
- Your waitlist email
- Questions you ask the AI mentor, and the mentor stories it rewrites, sent with the session context needed to answer them, and processed by Anthropic
- Only if you publish a MyMentor: that mentor's alerts, for its public record
We don't sell your data. If you turn on Tradovate sync, the app connects from your PC straight to Tradovate with credentials kept on your PC; they don't pass through us.
| What leaves your computer | Where it goes | Who can see it | How long it's kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your account: email, username, display name | Our database (Supabase). Your password is held only as a hash by Supabase sign-in. | Us. Other signed-in traders see your username and display name, never your email. Until a pending update ships, they can also see who invited you and when you accepted the community rules. | While your account exists |
| Plan and billing status | Our database keeps your Stripe customer and subscription IDs, price, status, renewal date and trial end. Card details go to Stripe only. | Us and Stripe | While your account exists; Stripe event IDs (no payment details) for 90 days |
| AI mentor questions and the mentor stories it rewrites, with session context | Through our server to Anthropic. Our server doesn't store the text. | Anthropic processes it to answer | We keep a daily count (questions, tokens, cost) for 90 days, not the text |
| Floor messages and calls | Our database | Public channels: every signed-in trader. Private rooms, group chats and DMs: their members. | While your account exists, unless deleted |
| That you're online, and when you're typing | Live channels, not stored | Anyone with the app's public key, including people outside that room. Never what you type. | Only while the app or the Floor is open |
| Trade records, only if you turn on sharing with a partner: the kinds you share (entries, results in R, daily limits hit and warnings overridden; dollars only if allowed) | Our database | You, and only the partners you turn sharing on for (dollars only if you allow them). Replay trades are sent only if you turn that on. | While your account exists |
| Waitlist email, and a partner's referral code if you came through one | Our database | Us | Until [12] months after launch (or after you joined, if later); deleted sooner once you confirm an account with the same email |
| A partner's promotion code you use at checkout | Our database, with the amount of each paid invoice | Us | As long as needed to pay that partner, including after you delete your account |
| MyMentor alerts, only if you publish a mentor | Our server signs and stores them | Public, as that mentor's record | While your account exists |
| Service logs | Our hosting provider (Render) | Us. Emails and access tokens are removed from our log lines. | Up to [30] days |
Doesn't leave your computer: anything the NinjaTrader connector reads, your journal and Trader DNA, your commission setting and account choices, your Tradovate login, and the Habit Cost Audit file. Phone pairing is off by default and runs only between your PC and your phone on your home network (or your own Tailscale network).
More detail, including who processes what, in the Privacy Policy.
See it on your own trades first.
The free audit shows which habits cost you money, from a Tradovate or NinjaTrader export, in your browser. Every new account starts with a 21-day free Pro trial, no card needed.
Starting with Windows and NinjaTrader 8. Trading futures involves substantial risk of loss; TiltLab is not advice. See the Risk Disclosure.
